Here Are The Cars Your Dad Really Wants This Father's Day
OK, you're probably not going to buy your dad a car for Father's Day. But if you were (best son or daughter EVER), TrueCar.com has some surprising data that shows which car your dad might really want.
Based on 2011 data received from fathers about the cars that they drive, the findings show a strange concoction of sedans, trucks and minivans. Yes minivans. Come on dads.
"Unlike the list of vehicles men prefer, which includes the Porsche 911 in the top spot, the data shows that fathers have traded in speed for practical vehicles with a back seat," said Kristen Andersson, Senior Analyst at TrueCar.com. "We're finding that fathers need a fuel-efficient car for commuting to work and weekend activities."
But while that sounds rather yawn-inducing, it is comforting that dads are making a nice, pragmatic decision about their rides. After all, have you ever tried to sit in the back of a 911? Those rides to soccer would have been a lot less pleasant had that been his daily driver.
Click through to see what dad really wants this year. While he's no longer a speed demon, he has your best interests at heart. And that's what makes dads so great.

While Toyota has tried hard to make the minivan cool with its "swagger wagon" campaign, the fact is that this is a pretty dull choice, Dad. Sure, it has a nice interior, great safety features and that Toyota reliability, but no one is getting any goosebumps when the engine ignites.

This is a little more like it. With its bold styling, towing capability and big 3.7-liter base engine, the Ram 1500 is great for the dad that doesn't mind getting his hands dirty. Gas prices are going to hurt though, as this truck only gets 20 mpg on the highway.

This SUV is a solid choice for the dad with lots of cubs, even if they don't break out into impromptu choruses of "Crazy Train" like Honda's idealized Pilot family. It's big, comfy, safe and great for road trips.

The Toyota Camry is consistently one of the best-selling cars in the country for a reason. It's fuel efficient, safe, reliable and roomy. But considering it's complete lack of personality, we think dads should opt for something with a little more fun factor.

The current generation Honda Civic hasn't been much of a winner in the industry. Apparently, dads haven't gotten the news, though, as they are buying them up in droves.

Dads seem to really like the best-selling vehicle in America. The F-150 is very versatile, powerful and more fuel efficient than other trucks and even some SUVs. In the bigger cab versions, there's enough room for the kids and all of his stuff.

Another minivan? Really? We were actually pretty surprised to see one this high on the list. The Odyssey is undoubtedly one of the best minivans, so at least he's paying attention to quality, but come on Dad!

We're pretty big fans of the Sonata. Its bold stlying, fuel-efficient engine and warranty make it a great choice. We do have one suggestion, though: Get the 2.0T, which increases power to 274 hp.

It has a nice ride, it's versatile and gets good fuel economy. Like the Camry, it's great on paper, but suffers from a pretty serious lack of imagination. Regardless, dads sure seem to love it -- a testament to them choosing function over fun.
