2015 Jeep Renegade Blends Jeep And Fiat Design
Posted March 7, 2014
Ever since Italian automaker Fiat acquired Chrysler, there have been rumors of a mix between Chrysler's popular Jeep nameplate and the European brand. Could cute, funky Fiat DNA mix with that of the rugged Jeep and produce an attractive and fun car? Recently, the two brands came together and produced a baby Wrangler with bright Fiat headlights called the Jeep Renegade. It stole the spotlight when pictures were leaked a few days before the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.
The Renegade is hands-down adorable. Though the Renegade carries on the modern, boxy style of the segment's successful Korean competitors, the Nissan Juke and the Kia Soul, it's still a Jeep. With 8.7 inches of ground clearance and a classic seven-slot grille, round headlights and flaring wheel wells, the Renegade looks like a cuddlier version of its big brother, the Jeep Wrangler. The brake lights on the Renegade include accents that recall the old 1948 Overland Willys. The Renegade is suited for city driving, and with the Trailhawk edition, will also be ready for off-roading.Jeep Renegade
Like the Cherokee, the Renegade comes with the My Sky roof system for that open-Jeep feel. Two roof panels detach and stow in the trunk, opening the top up from the rear second row of seats all the way to the front.Jeep Renegade
Worldwide, Chrysler plans to offer 16 different engine configurations. For the U.S., Fiat-Chrysler plans to offer two powertrains. One is a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder currently found in the Fiat 500L. It offers up 160 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The 2.4-liter Tigershark four-cylinder currently featured in the Dodge Dart and the Chrysler 200 puts out a little more power with 184 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. Both systems can provide up to 100 percent of the engine's available torque to the ground.Jeep Renegade
Whatever the engine option, this little Jeep has proven cynicism about a Fiat-Jeep venture wrong.
