The Volkswagen Jetta is the best deal in town if you like the idea of a solid sedan with European flair.
The four-door Jetta sedan is available in three renamed trim levels, S, SE and SEL. All Jetta trims come standard with a 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine generating 170 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, and a five-speed manual transmission. A six-speed automatic is standard on the SEL trim level, and optional on the other two trims. Jettas come standard with many safety features including front side-impact air bags, curtain/head air bags, anti-lock brakes and traction control. Stability control is standard on SE and SEL trims, optional on the S trim.
Also for 2008, Volkswagen has shuffled, deleted, and added many features in conjunction with the new trim naming convention.

We haven't heard much lately about Fahrvergnugen, that difficult-to-define Germanic character that supposedly separated Volkswagens from other moderately priced cars. That's probably because VW outsiders never did get it, as trying to sell the Volkswagen driving experience to someone who has never experienced it is like trying to describe premium-grade European chocolate to someone who hasn't tasted it and thinks the supermarket brand is just fine. ...
