The Toyota Highlander Hybrid is based on the popular Highlander SUV, boasting a more environmentally-friendly gas-electric hybrid engine that delivers excellent fuel economy and lower emissions.

The 7-passenger Highlander Hybrid is available in an all-wheel drive configuration only, with two trim levels: Base and Limited. It employs an advanced Hybrid Synergy Drive system - a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine with a high-torque electric drive motor-generator - producing 280 net horsepower and mated to an electronically-controlled continuously variable transmission. The Base trim is equipped with 17-inch aluminum wheels, air conditioning, satellite radio, Bluetooth wireless connectivity and audio streaming, and a USB port. The Limited trim adds 19-inch aluminum wheels, a power rear liftgate, power moonroof, three-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, leather upholstery and a Smart Key System with push-button start. Standard safety features include anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, electronic vehicle stability and traction control systems, active anti-whiplash front head restraints, a rearview camera monitor, front side-impact airbags, a driver knee airbag and overhead curtain airbags for all rows. Hybrid-related components are backed by an 8-year/100,000 mile warranty.

After a minor refresh last year, the Toyota Highlander Hybrid carries over unchanged for 2012.
