The Porsche 911 remains the iconic symbol of a sports car.

The 911 Carrera comes as either a coupe or a cabriolet, in either a rear-wheel drive (C2) or an all-wheel drive (C4) configuration. The 911 C2 and C4 are powered by a 345-hp direct-injection 3.6-liter flat six-cylinder engine and the S variants of the C2 and C4 are powered by a 385-hp direct-injection 3.8-liter flat six-cylinder engine. The Turbo coupe and cabriolet models sport a 500-hp twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat six engine and standard all-wheel drive. Transmission choices include either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission known as PDK. The Targa, with its innovative glass-paneled roof has the same drivetrains as the Carrera C4 and C4S models. The track-derived GT3 is powered by a 435-hp 3.8-liter flat six-cylinder engine and comes exclusively as a rear-wheel drive coupe with a six-speed manual transmission.

For 2010, the X51 Power Kit returns to the option list of the S models, The Turbo receives a minor face-lift, a new engine and chassis tuning, and the GT3 returns to the line-up after a one-year hiatus, with more power and refreshed styling.

Internally, Porsche calls the current model the 997, version 2. ... Read Full Review

Direct injection has introduced an unsexy clatter to the idle and robbed some of the old flat-six noise, but let's be clear that this is still a great engine.
