2008 Mercury Mountaineer Overview
Introduction
The higher-end fraternal twin of the Ford Explorer, the Mercury Mountaineer provides a comfortable ride while retaining utility and some off-road capability. Abundant cargo space and an accommodating interior are hallmarks of the Mountaineer.
The Mountaineer comes in rear-wheel or all-wheel drive in one body configuration, a four-door, mid-size sport utility, and has room for up to seven passengers. Two powertrain versions are available: a 210-horsepower 4.0-liter V6 mated to a five-speed automatic transmission and a 292-hp 4.6-liter V8 with six-speed automatic. These features come packaged in two trim levels: Base and Premier. Stability control and four wheel antilock disc brakes are standard.
The Mountaineer carries over from 2007. In 2008, Fordâ??s Sync voice-activated control system is now available.
NHTSA Frontal Crash Test
NHTSA rates crash-tested vehicles by assigning them one to five stars, with five stars indicating the most injury protection and one star indicating the least protection.
