2007 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Overview

Introduction

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been the sales leader in luxury sedans for four decades. It is quick, quiet, and the safety achievements alone would be reason enough to buy this car.

The S65 AMG is a performance-tuned version of the S-Class. Power is delivered from a 604 hp 6.0-liter V-12 engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission with manual gear select. It comes standard with performance items like 20-inch wheels, height adjustable shocks, and auto-leveling suspension. The new S-Class safety package is unequalled in the class, with all the usual brake and airbag technology upgraded and Pre-Safe accident-readiness equipment made standard. The Electronic Stability Program is back as standard equipment, with two new features: trailer stabilization, and tire-pressure monitoring.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is fully re-designed for 2007.

The top-of-the-line S600 is powered by an upgraded version of the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V12 engine currently used in the $350,000 Maybach sedans rated at 510 horsepower. The engine is mated to a heavy-duty five-speed automatic. The S600 comes with extremely high levels of standard equipment, befitting its high market position. Virtually every comfort and convenience item is standard, with a huge option list to ease customization. It also adds Parktronic front and rear parking radar system, and the newly updated Distronic radar-controlled cruise control.

The Mercedes-Benz S600 is a carryover from 2007.

The S550 is powered by a completely new engine, the 5.5-liter V8 that has gone back to a 4-valve-per-cylinder design. It offers extremely high levels of standard equipment, befitting its high market position. Virtually every comfort and convenience item is standard, with a huge option list to ease customization. The V8 engine comes mated to a seven-speed automatic.
