2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Overview
Introduction
The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is made by McLaren Automotive, who specialize in engineering and building lightweight Formula 1 racing cars. For 2008, McLaren has taken the SLR through an automotive metamorphasis which has produced a roadster. A fully retractable semi-automatic soft top replaces the fixed roof of the original car.
Powered by an AMG supercharged 5.5 liter, 617-hp V-8 engine, paired with a five-speed automatic transmission, the SLR McLaren Roadster can reach 206 mph. Its cabin houses two carbon-fiber seats with leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control and GPS navigation. The gauge cluster and center console purposely house analog instrumentation to rouse memories of classic racing design. Standard safety features for the McLaren SLR include six airbags, seat belt pretensioners with roll-over protection, four-wheel ABS, tire pressure monitor, traction control, electronic stability control and full carbon-fiber monocoque.
For 2008, the Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR has a convertible version.
