2001 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Overview

Introduction

The E-Class sedans and wagons are solid, safe, comfortable, luxurious, and fast.

Rear-wheel drive E-Class sedans are available in three models, the E320, E430 and E55 AMG. The E320 and is available as a wagon and the E320 and E430 are also available with all-wheel drive. All models receive a 5-speed automatic transmission. A 3.2L V-6 engine that is rated at 221 hp @ 5,600 rpm and 232 lb-ft of torque @ 3,000 rpm powers the E320s and a 4.3L V-8 engine with 275 hp @ 5,750 rpm and 295 lb-ft of torque @ 3,000 rpm propels the E430s. The E55 AMG gets a 5.4L V-8 engine that ups the performance of the E-Class with 349 hp @ 5,500 rpm and 391 lb-ft of torque @ 3,000 rpm. The E320 wagons seat up to seven, while the sedans seat five. All E-Class models come with a lengthy list of standard features.

The E-Class receives only minimal changes for 2001.
