2006 MINI Cooper S Overview
Introduction
The Mini Cooper S is the performance-tuned version of the regular Cooper. The shortest car on the road, it can be parked in the smallest of places. Yet it seats four, with surprisingly roomy back seats, and it can carry a generous amount of cargo.
The Mini Cooper S features a supercharged version of the four-cylinder engine, a six-speed manual gearbox, stiffer front and rear anti-roll bars for flatter handling, 16-inch wheels, and is available as a convertible or hatchback. The Cooper S has exterior trim that distinguishes it from the base model. Inside, the S adds sport seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. A six-speed automatic is optional. Safety features include anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution, front airbags and front side-impact airbags, curtain-style head-protection airbags for all passengers, seatbelt pretensioners, and a crash sensor that automatically unlocks the doors. The Cooper S also comes standard with traction control.
For 2006, The MINI Cooper S gets a new Checkmate trim package with exclusive interior and exterior modifications is now being offered for sedan models.

The Mini Cooper S is equipped with a turbocharged version of the 1.6 liter four-cylinder engine, stiffer Sport suspension, performance exhaust system, and 16-inch alloy wheels; 17-inch wheels are optional. Exterior design details, including a black grille inset, hood scoop, rear bumper insets and prominent rear spoiler wing, distinguish the S from the Cooper. (The convertible, unchanged from the 2006 models, is available in 168-hp supercharged Cooper S form.) All models are front-wheel drive. Both hatchback models come standard with six-speed manual transmissions; a six-speed automatic transmission with Steptronic controls is optional.
For 2007, the MINI Cooper S hardtop is completely new, while the convertible is a carryover from 2006.

Features such as Xenon headlights, Park Distance Control, stability control (hatchback), rain sensing wipers and front and rear fog lights are optional.
