2006 Jeep Wrangler Overview

Introduction

The Jeep Wrangler is a classic symbol of summer cruising and off-road rambling.

The Wrangler is available in six models: SE, X, Sport, Rubicon, Unlimited, and Unlimited Rubicon. A 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine comes standard with a six-speed manual gearbox. A 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine is available, which comes with a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic. All Wranglers come with a fold-down windshield, removable doors and top, and a weatherproof interior.

For 2006, the Jeep Wrangler gets more heavy-duty equipment for the base Unlimited model and the Golden Eagle package is also brought back.

The redesigned Jeep Wrangler is the most civilized, smoothest, comfortable, convenient, powerful, and off-road-capable Jeep ever made.

The Jeep Wrangler now has a four-door, using the name Unlimited. It is available as the Wrangler X, Sahara and Rubicon. The four-door Wrangler Unlimited also comes as an X, Sahara or Rubicon. All come with the new 3.8-liter V6 engine with 198 horsepower and four-wheel disc brakes with ABS. The standard transmission is a six-speed manual and an optional four-speed automatic with overdrive is available. Standard safety features include side impact door beams, anti-lock brakes and an energy-absorbing steering column.

For 2007, the Jeep Wrangler is all new.

Since it's redesigned in 2007, the Wrangler continues to be one of the most versatile off-road-capable Jeep ever made.

In two-door form, the Wrangler is configurable in either X, Sahara and Rubicon trim. New in 2008, a right-hand drive Wrangler X is available for North America. The two-door Wrangler uses a standard four-wheel drive system. The four-door Wrangler's are labeled Unlimited, which inevitably incorporates a longer wheelbase into the original design. The Unlimited can be ordered as a two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive system. Trims offered on the Wrangler Unlimited are X, Sahara (two- or four-wheel drive); or the Rubicon in four-wheel drive only. All come with the 3.8-liter V-6 engine producing 202 horsepower. The standard transmission is a six-speed manual with overdrive, or an optional four-speed automatic with overdrive is available (standard on Wrangler X RHD). Standard safety features include side impact door beams, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, and an energy-absorbing steering column.

In 2008 the Wrangler offers a new Sahara Appearance Group, Detonator Yellow exterior color (Wrangler X and Rubicon trims), and available remote start. Also, the Wrangler Sahara and Rubicon both receive a soft top as standard equipment.

The Wrangler is one of the most fun-to-drive, off-road-capable Jeeps ever made. For open-air driving at the beach or on the trail or even the just on the street, the standard soft top can be folded down or the available hard top can be taken off, the doors can be removed and the windshield can be folded down.

The standard 3.8-liter V-6 engine produces 202 horsepower, and the standard transmission is a six-speed manual with overdrive. An optional four-speed automatic with overdrive is available. Electronic stability control with roll control, traction control, brake assist and hill hold control are standard on all Wranglers. The Sahara offers body colour flares, Infinity speakers, remote keyless entry, power window, security alarm and 18-inch wheels. The Rubicon features equipment that off-road enthusiasts usually add anyway, including heavy duty axles, front and rear electronic locking differentials, 32-inch BF Goodrich mud tires, sway bar disconnect system, rock rails and a heavy-duty transfer case with 4:1 low-gear ratio. The available Freedom Top three-piece modular hardtop allows panels to be removed above the driver or passenger. Other options include Dual Top Group, half doors, remote start system, front seat-mounted side air bags, and MyGIG infotainment system with navigation.

For 2009, the Sahara receives power windows and power door locks with remote keyless entry as standard equipment.
