Over several hundred miles behind the wheel of an X-Type, the rigidity of the chassis, build quality and quiet cabin all impressed us as true near-luxury sedan stuff.

Inside the cabin, the flowing design theme from the exterior carries through onto the instrument panel. Wood veneers on the dash and on the center console, combined with the wood and leather-trimmed steering wheel, give the passenger cabin an upscale look and feel.

This sedan is too pricey and too small. There are lots of other nicely appointed sedans out there for less money, and plenty with more back seat room.
