I bought a 2004 Jaguar XJ8 new in 2003. It was so beautiful, so elegant. Also so trouble free ... for a time. After the warranty expired, I experienced issue after issue. Mostly electronic related. This surprised me because I had owned a Jaguar prior to this with no problems. It really came to the point that the repairs costs were more than a new car payment. After a quote of close to $5000 for wear and age related repairs, I gave up. This car only had 32,000 miles! I will miss this car, but .... Resale value is horrible, but I understand why.

I own a XJR 2004 and love it. I drove it twice accross county. It does 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. It is fast and smooth. I am a great fan of the J shift. It gives a driver far more control over the gears than a bump shift. I never wonder what gear I am in. I will miss it when the new XJ comes out. This car is stunning and one of the greatest values on the market today. I get 25+ mpg on the highway.

Superb handling; luxurious ride; power to spare; unparalleled good looks

What's not to like? As reliable as a kitchen appliance (no problems in 40k miles so far), opulent interior, logical and convenient displays and controls. When you press on the gas, the big cat pounces ahead with aplomb, accelerating through barely perceptible, buttery smooth and perfectly timed gear changes, achieving startling performance for such a big car. And it gets 28 mpg on the highway; overall 22-23. The supercharged version delivers exhilerating power, more than most sprots cars, flying to 60 mph from start in seconds with the famous cat-like suspension and strength. Nothing like it!

Comsumer Reports has whined about "noise" by which I think they mean the pleasant purr of this cat that most afficionados just love as an attribute. I'm sure they'd complain about exhaust noise on a corvette. I have been in very few quieter cars, but if you want quiet stodginess and better cup holders, get a old Lincoln Town Car. This is in a class by itself. Nothing can compare to the feel of a Jaguar, and with the reliability problems now in the way distant past with the XJ series, this is sure to please. Check out the JD Power stats; Jaguar beats the industry average by quite a bit.

The OE tires will become noisy after awhile; I switched to Yokohamas and improved both handling and ride comfort, as if it needed any. I have driven BMW and Mercedes too, and think this best captures the correct balance of perfromance and luxury. And for just plain good looks and an interior coach that feels like a fine British club, the Germans can't hold a candle to this machine.
