2006 HUMMER H2 SUV Overview

Introduction

The HUMMER H2 offers truly impressive off-road capabilities. And unlike the H1, it provides occupants with a luxurious interior that's comfortable and convenient. Its size and design makes suitable for everyday use, as long as you have a large gasoline budget.

The H2 is available is SUV and SUT body styles. It comes in a couple different trims from Adventure Series to the Special Edition. However, one of its best selling points is its powertrain. The 6.0-liter V8 makes 325 horsepower in this chassis and 365 pound-feet of torque, enough to move this 6,400-pound behemoth from 0 to 60 mph in about 10 seconds. Perhaps more important, it can tow 6,500 pounds or carry 2,200 pounds of cargo. The engine drives through GM's 4L65-E electronically controlled four-speed automatic overdrive transmission.

For 2006, the changes to the HUMMER H2 SUV are minimal.

The H2 SUV is based on GM's heavy-duty pickup trucks, but highly modified for increased off-road capability.

The H2 SUV seats up to six passengers and is based off of Chevrolet's Tahoe and Suburban platform. A 325 hp 6.0-liter Vortec V-8 gives the H2 SUV its strength and is controlled by a four-speed automatic transmission with Tow-Haul mode. It uses a high tech BorgWarner four-wheel-drive system that allows the H2 SUV to tackle the most challenging off-road situations. To protect its underbody while off-road, it has skid plates, a fuel-tank shield, chassis-bolted rocker panel protectors and a protective shield for the onboard air compressor option.

The HUMMER H2 SUV is a carryover from 2006.

The H2 SUV provides the power, size, ruggedness and iconic design expected from a HUMMER.

Power comes from a new 393-hp, 6.2-liter Vortec V-8 and is controlled by an also new six-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel mounted shift buttons. A four-wheel-drive system with a two-speed transfer case allows the H2 SUV to tackle the most challenging off-road situations, while extensive underbody protection gives the driver peace of mind. Standard safety features include head curtain airbags for all three rows, electronic stability control w/roll mitigation, panic brake assist, tire pressure monitoring and OnStar.

For 2008, the HUMMER H2 SUV receives its first major redesign since its inception, changes include an all-new powertrain and interior as well several new standard safety features and some subtle visual and functional exterior changes.
