2006 GMC Sierra 1500 Overview
Introduction
The GMC Sierra 1500 is the light-duty version of the GMC Sierra.
The Sierra 1500 comes available in two and four wheel drive and offers payloads ranging from 1,215 to 2,040 pounds, and tow ratings from 4,100 up to 9,000 pounds, depending on equipment. Two truck bed size are available: a short 6 foot six inch bed and long eight foot bed. Engine choices include a 4.3-liter V-6, a 4.8-liter V-8, and a 5.3-liter V-8. Five-speed manual and four-speed automatic transmissions are offered. Standard features include ABS, air conditioning, cruise control, AM/FM/CD audio, an attractive chrome grille molding, a chrome rear step bumper, and 17-inch chromed steel wheels.
Changes for 2006 are minimal.
The GMC Sierra 1500 is a full-size pickup truck that is nearly identical to the Chevy Silverado but features more mature, restrained styling.
The Sierra 1500 comes in work truck, SLE1, SLE2, SLT and Denali trim levels. The interior storage capacities have grown thanks to larger glove-compartments and storage consoles. The Denali has unique leather seating, remote starting, adjustable pedals, and sonar rear parking assist. There are a few engine options: 4.3-liter V-6, 4.8-, 5.3- and 6.0-liter V-8 engines that are controlled by a four-speed automatic. The Denali comes with an even more powerful 6.2-liter V-8 mated to a six-speed automatic.
The GMC Sierra 1500 is all new for 2007.

Like all Sierras, the 1500 is available in a wide array of bed sizes, wheelbases, drive types and cab sizes, as well as a variety of trim levels. Safety features include driver and passenger front air bags, tire pressure monitoring system and four-wheel antilock disc brakes.
The GMC Sierra 1500 carries over from 2007.

The GMC Sierra 1500 is visually unchanged from 2008, but adds the availability of a new 6.2L FlexFuel engine, a new six-speed automatic transmission, electronic stability control standard on all V8-powered trim levels, as well as optional Bluetooth and XM NavTraffic.
The GMC Sierra 1500 offers fuel economy, capability and performance in a broad lineup that includes everything from job-ready Work Truck to the well-appointed Denali. It is available in a wide array of bed sizes, wheelbases, drive types and cab sizes, and trim levels.
There are four engine sizes to choose from: 4.3-liter V6, 4.8-liter V8, 5.3-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8; and two transmissions: a four-speed automatic and a six-speed automatic. Properly equipped, the Sierra 1500 can provide a payload capacity of up to 1957 lbs and tow up to 10,700 lbs. A wide variety of suspension, towing, entertainment, comfort and convenience packages are available.
The GMC Sierra 1500 is visually unchanged from 2009, but the 4.8L engine is now flexible-fuel, air conditioning and electronic stability control are now standard on the Work Truck trim, and overhead curtain airbags are now standard on all trims. New audio systems feature audio-DVD and USB ports.
