2006 Ford Fusion Overview

Introduction

The Ford Fusion is based on the highly praised Mazda6 sedan and is a rock solid entry sedan at a decent price. It handles well, looks purposeful and delivers good value for the money.

The Fusion was launched with front-wheel drive, but an all-wheel-drive version will be available later in calendar year 2006. The mid-size, four-door sedan comes with the choice of two engines, three transmissions, and three trim levels. All trim levels come standard with a 2.3-liter 160-horsepower four-cylinder Duratec engine coupled to a five-speed manual transmission. A four-speed automatic transmission is optional. A 3.0-liter V6 engine producing 221 horsepower coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission is available for the SE and SEL. Safety features include optional side curtain airbags in both roads, seat-mounted side-impact airbags for the front seats, anti-lock brakes (ABS) and traction control.

The Ford Fusion is a brand new model for 2006.

For 2007, The Ford Fusion comes standard with side-impact and curtain airbags and All-wheel drive is a new option.

The powerteams are a 160 hp 2.3L four-cylinder engine with a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission, or a 221 hp 3.0L V6 engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. The Fusion is available in three trim levels, the S, SE and SEL. Safety features include side curtain airbags in both rows, seat-mounted side-impact airbags for the front seats, frontal airbags, LATCH child-seat anchors and rear-door child-safety locks.

For 2008, The Ford Fusion comes standard with antilock brakes, a tire pressure monitoring system, and keyless entry. Voice-activated navigation and Ford's industry exclusive new Sync hands-free communications and entertainment system are available options. A Sport Appearance Package is also available, which includes 18-inch wheels, a spoiler, and red contrast stitching for the seats and steering wheel.

With a choice of four- or six-cylinder engines, in addition to front-wheel and all-wheel drive, the Fusion has something for everyone. The powerteams are a 175-hp 2.5L four-cylinder engine with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission, or a 240-hp 3.0L V6 engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. The addition of a 263-hp 3.5L V6 engine with a six-speed automatic transmission is new for this year. The Fusion is available in four trim levels, the S, SE, SEL, and Sport. Safety features include electronic stability and traction control, security system, six-airbags, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

For 2010, the Ford Fusion has a redesigned interior and exterior, and improved drivetrain, including the 263-hp 3.5L V6 engine found on the Sport trim.
