2010 Ford Explorer Overview
Introduction
For many years, the Ford Explorer has been one of the best-selling SUVs in the market. A capable tow vehicle and off-roader, the Explorer also offers the generous interior space, comfort features and safety technologies necessary for day-to-day tasks.
The Explorer is available in rear-wheel, four-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations, with a choice of three trim levels: XLT, Eddie Bauer or Limited (XLT and Limited only on all-wheel drive models). Two powertrain combinations are available: a 210-hp 4.0-liter V6 engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission is standard on all trims, while a 292-hp 4.6-liter V8 engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission is optional on the Eddie Bauer and Limited. Explorer XLT trims are well-equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, cruise control and MP3 capability; Eddie Bauer trims add unique two-tone exterior accents, 17-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, leather upholstery and a third row of seating, along with satellite radio and the SYNC communication system with Bluetooth wireless connectivity. Limited trims are further outfitted with 18-inch chrome-clad wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, upgraded audio with 6CD changer, power-folding third-row seat and a reverse sensing system. Standard safety features on every Explorer include AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, traction control, anti-lock disc brakes and a tire pressure monitor, as well as dual front, front side-impact and side-curtain airbags.
For 2010, the Ford Explorer carries over with minor adjustments to standard equipment and a restructured ordering strategy. A manual-folding third-row seat is now standard on Eddie Bauer trims, providing seating for up to seven passengers. Additionally, all-wheel drive Explorer models are no longer offered in the Eddie Bauer trim level.
