What reviewers liked most about the Ford C-Max Energi:

The 5-passenger cabin is filled with attractive, soft-touch surfaces that combine to produce a remarkably upscale feel, particularly for this class of vehicle. Ergonomics are excellent, with controls that are user-friendly and easily accessible. Headroom is overly abundant in all seating positions, and rear legroom is suitable for six-footers.

What reviewers liked least about the Ford C-Max Energi:

...the Energi bloats to 3899 pounds.... (The Prius Plug-in seems relatively svelte at 3165 pounds.) Compared to the C-Max Hybrid, the Energi's suspension is fundamentally unchanged but slightly recalibrated. Despite the tweaks, though, the car felt weak-kneed and fat-bottomed on undulant roads.

While the system never had a melt-down during my testing (a first for MyFord Touch), the slowness the system is known for persists.

Based on the superb C-Max Hybrid, a nicer and better small wagon than the Toyota Prius v, the Energi adds capability on the electric side. In doing so it also reels in the Prius Plug-in and is only surpassed in the electric-mobility arena by the kind of supercommitment that pays diminishing dividends with maximum BEVs.

There are no blue-tinted transparent button arrays, no shifter joystick and no center-mounted disco dash either. Instead you will find a premium cabin that would pass muster in any $30,000 vehicle and looks notably more premium than the Lexus CT 200h. The Prius on the other hand is full of plastics and fabrics more at home in a $16,000 econo-box.

If you are on the hunt for a highly-efficient vehicle, but unwilling to sacrifice horsepower and responsive handling, the 2013 Ford C-Max provides the best balance of fuel economy and driving fun in the segment.
