1999 Dodge Caravan Overview
Introduction
The Dodge Caravan is a family oriented minivan that has consistently ranked among the top-sellers in its class.
The Caravan is available in three trims: the base, SE, and LE. The base version has a 2.4L inline 4-cylinder engine that produces 150 hp @ 5200 rpm and 167 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm, while the SE and LE trims have a 3.3L V-6 engine which creates 158 hp @ 4850 rpm and 203 lb-ft @ 3250 rpm. For even more power, an optional 3.8L, 180 hp @ 4300 rpm and 240 lb-ft @ 3100 rpm V-6 engine is available on the SE and LE trims. For 1999, several upgrades have been made including: a front-seat cargo net, body-colored grille and door handles, next-generation airbags, and standard middle and rear seat head restraints. As well, the SE now includes 17-inch touring tires and aluminum wheels, and a rear spoiler, all of which comes standard. The Caravan is also the first minivan to offer an AutoStick transmission which allows the driver to shift gears manually. The Caravan has a long-standing reputation for being spacious, comfortable and reliable, while remaining reasonably affordable which has led to its domination of the minivan market.Next Steps »
