2006 Chevrolet Tahoe Overview
Introduction
The Chevrolet Tahoe is a purpose-built, full-size four-door and family-oriented SUV. It has better steering and braking response, Displacement on Demand engine technology and enhanced safety features that make it an attractive choice among full-size SUVs.
Chevy Tahoe comes in LS and LT trim with a choice of two V8 engines with rear-wheel-drive or four-wheel drive. A Z71 off-road package is available with 2WD or 4WD. All Tahoes come with a four-speed automatic transmission. The standard engine is a 4.8-liter V8 called the Vortec 4800. The larger, 5.3-liter Vortec 5300 is optional on LS, standard with LT and Z71. The Vortec 5300 is rated 295 horsepower. Safety features include Hydroboost brakes, a tire-pressure monitor, dual frontal air bags, and four-wheel anti-lock brakes with Dynamic Brake Proportioning. StabiliTrak electronic stability control, front side-impact air bags and traction control are available as options. LATCH child safety-seat anchors are provided.
For 2006, the Chevrolet Tahoe only receives minor changes such as the option of an engine that can run off ethanol.
The standard engine is a 290-hp 4.8-liter V8. Tahoe four-wheel drive models come standard with a 320-hp 5.3-liter V8 that features GM's Displacement on Demand technology that turns off four cylinders in many normal driving situations. A version of this engine also can run on either E85 ethanol-blended fuel as well as on regular unleaded gasoline. The LS is the base model and should account for about 15 percent of sales. Standard equipment includes dual-zone air conditioning, cloth seating for five people, 17-inch wheels, a tire-pressure monitoring system, StabiliTrak stability control, and an eight-speaker audio system with CD player and a year of OnStar service.
For 2007, the Chevrolet Tahoe gets largely redesigned.
