2006 Chevrolet Malibu Overview

Introduction

The Chevrolet Malibu emphasizes civilized road manners, quality construction, and buttoned-down practicality wrapped in innocuous if not anonymous styling.

The Malibu is available as a conventional four-door sedan, or as the longer-wheelbase Malibu Maxx. The sedan comes in four trim levels: LS, LT, LTZ and SS. The LS and LT are powered by a 2.2-liter dual overhead cam four-cylinder engine. The LTZ comes with a 3.5-liter overhead-valve V6, which is optional in the LT. The SS comes with a new, 3.9-liter overhead-valve V6. All models come with a four-speed automatic transmission; the SS adds a sport-shift function.

For 2006, the Malibu SS models receive a new, 240-hp, 3.9-liter V6 coupled to a sport-shift automatic.

The Malibu has four trim levels: LS, LT, LTZ, and SS. All the trims provide different amenities such as: adjustable brake and accelerator pedals, UltraLux and leather-appointed seating, heated front seats, a six-way power driver's seat and automatic climate control. The SS has sportier exterior and interior appointments, a performance-tuned suspension and 18' alloy wheels. The LS and LT come with the 144hp 2.2-liter four-cylinder. The LTZ comes with the 217hp 3.5-liter V-6. The SS comes with the 240hp 3.9-liter V-6.

For 2007, the 2.2-liter four-cylinder gains variable valve timing and all trims get standard side curtain airbags.
