2006 Chevrolet Cobalt Overview
Introduction
The Chevrolet Cobalt is a quiet, crisp handling, inexpensive, high-value, and refined small car made by GM.
The Cobalt is available in an array of distinctive trim levels in two body styles: two-door coupe and four-door sedan. Three different engines are available with suspensions tuned to match. The LS, LT, and LTZ models are powered by a 145-horsepower 2.2-liter engine and use the FE1 suspension. SS coupe and sedan get a 171-horsepower 2.4-liter engine, the FE3 sports suspension, 17-inch wheels and high performance tires. SS models are available with the five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. SS Supercharged coupe features a 205-horsepower 2.0-liter engine.
For 2006, the Chevrolet Cobalt gets the option of an SS sedan or coupe model with normally aspirated engine.
The Cobalt is the quietest, most refined small car GM has ever built. It's based on a strong, stiff platform, a key element for crisp handling and a smooth ride.

The SS Supercharged coupe features a 205-horsepower 2.0-liter engine and the high-performance FE5 suspension.
For 2007, The Chevrolet Cobalt includes a standard CD stereo with an auxiliary input for MP3 players, new wheel options and choice of a remote starting system. The four-spoke steering wheel in last year's Cobalt is also replaced by a three-spoke.
The Chevrolet Cobalt is available as either a two-door coupe with four trims (LS, LT, Sport and SS Turbocharged) or a four-door sedan with three trims (LS, LT and Sport).
The LS and the LT trims come standard with a 148-hp 2.2-liter engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The Sport comes with a 171-hp 2.4-liter engine and a five-speed manual transmission. The SS comes with a 260-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. A four-speed automatic is optional on all trims except the SS. The LS comes with 15-inch steel wheels, front airbags with side curtain airbags, and satellite radio as standard equipment. The LT adds front and rear carpeted floor mats, premium cloth seat trim and power mirrors, windows and door locks with remote keyless entry. The Sport has the same content as the LT but further adds, 17-inch aluminum wheels, anti-lock brakes, a rear spoiler, cruise control and an upgraded radio. The SS further adds 18-inch forged alloy wheels with performance tires.
For 2008 the Chevrolet Cobalt has added side curtain airbags and an XM satellite radio as standard equipment on all trims.
The Chevrolet Cobalt is available as either a two-door coupe or a four-door sedan, each available in four trims: Base, LS, LT and SS Turbocharged.
The Base, LS and LT trims come standard with a 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine mated to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. The SS Turbocharged comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The LS trim comes standard with: 15-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, front airbags with side curtain airbags, front bucket seats with a fold down rear seat, and a satellite radio; the Base trim shares all the same standard equipment as the LS except for the lack of air conditioning, making it the value leader in the Cobalt line-up. The LT adds on top of the LS trim: front and rear carpeted floor mats, premium cloth seat trim and power mirrors, windows and door locks with remote keyless entry. The SS Turbocharged has the same content as the LT but further adds: 18-inch aluminum wheels, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, a rear spoiler, a leather gear shift knob, a leather steering wheel, cruise control and an upgraded radio.
For 2009 the Chevrolet Cobalt has removed the Sport trim. The 2.2-liter engine now has continuous variable valve timing and an inflator kit is standard on all trims in lieu of a spare tire.
For 2010 the Chevrolet Cobalt receives minor paint and equipment changes.
