2006 Buick Rainier Overview

Introduction

The Buick Rainier is the most refined of the GM SUV models, and it's among the quietest SUVs in its class. The Rainier has a uniquely Buick style and a near-luxury sensibility. Yet it still seats five and boasts an engine powerful enough to pull a boat or horse trailer.

The Rainier comes in just one well-equipped trim level, called CXL. The Rainier is available with two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. Standard equipment includes a four-speed automatic transmission, electronically controlled rear air suspension with automatic load-leveling, locking rear differential, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes and dual-stage driver and front passenger airbags. Traction control is standard on 2WD models. The standard engine is GM's highly regarded Vortec 4200, an inline-6 that provides an impressive 291 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. Optional is the Vortec 5300 V8, up-rated for 2005 to 300 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque.

For 2006, the Buick Rainier gets a slight horsepower increase and other minor changes.

The Buick Rainier offers buyers a quiet, refined, SUV with all the luxury appointments buyers have come to expect in a vehicle of this caliber.

Standard fare includes 17-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, woodgrain accents, and OnStar telematics. The base engine is a 4.2-liter inline six-cylinder that produces 291 horsepower. If even more power is desired a 302 hp 5.3-liter V8 engine is optional. Featuring traction control, StabiliTrac stability control, dual front airbags and 4-wheel disc antilock brakes, the Rainier is safe as well. For the discerning buyer, the options list includes items such as; a rear seat entertainment system with video screen, navigation system, satellite radio, sunroof, and power adjustable pedals.

The Buick Rainier is a carryover from 2006 and 2007 will be its last year of production.
