1999 BMW 540 Overview

Introduction

The 540 is one of BMW's best selling vehicles. It is available as either a 4-door sedan or station wagon.

The 1999 540 features a 4.4L V-8 engine, which powers out 282 hp @ 5400 rpm and 324 lb-ft @ 3600 rpm of torque. The 540 sedan is available in three trim levels - the iA, the i and the iA Protection. The iA trims feature a 5-speed automatic transmission, while the i trim comes with a 6-speed manual transmission. The station wagon features a 5-speed automatic transmission. The 540 gives a fuel economy of 15 to 18 mpg of city driving, and 21 to 24 mpg of highway driving. Standard features include rear-wheel drive, traction control, regular suspension, 4-wheel disc brakes and ABS. The i trim on the sedan has a sport suspension. Optional features include heated front seats, navigation system, and rear side impact airbags.
