We traded in our 05 Audi A8 in a base MDX after some extensive research. This is my wife's car, and we were really tired of the constant technical failures and very expensive maintenance(and incompetetent service, that's another story). We went to the Motor Trend Auto show in Tampa where we got to do some side by side comparisons of the vehicles we had it narrowd down to. These were the vehicles in competition for us, and the main reason for eliminating it from the list. 2011 Porsche Cayenne: Too expensive, concerns regarding maintenance cost. 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee: Lacked some fit and finish, looks better on paper. 2011 Subaru Tribeca: A little pricey for a somewhat boring car.The ride is a little like a minivan. 2011 BMW X5: didn't like the bottom "hatch" on the tailgate, concerns regarding service and experience with dealer. 2011 Audi Q7: Not really in competition due to maintenance history of 2 A8's 2011 Ford Edge: Design is an aquired taste, fit/ finish?. 2011 Lexus RX 350: Exterior design is so so, went to dealer twice and roamed car lot for 30 minutes without seeing a salesperson around. (I am not going to beg to let me buy a car). So we ended up with the 2011 MDX. There were many things that made the MDX appeal to us, such as exterior design, predicted reliability, resale value, handling, interior design , fit and finish, size of vehicle. There are a few gripes we have about the car, such as No keyless ignition, a little road noise, but that is about it. For the money it is a fantastic car, I was very concerned that we would be feeling like we downgraded from the A8, but I am very impressed with the MDX, even roadhandling is on par with the A8, at least for daily driving. The vehicle doesn't feel like a big vehicle on the road, and it has very good visibility. We chose the Base model, as we didn't care much for the Nav system with the tech. package, it will be used primarily for commuting, and if we need navigation I can buy a $400 Garmin,
