2006 Acura MDX Overview

Introduction

The Acura MDX offers an outstanding V6 powertrain, seven-passenger seating and an all-wheel-drive system. Interesting styling, attention to detail, excellent crash protection and competitive pricing increase the appeal of this luxury SUV.

The MDX is offered in a single trim level, powered by a 3.5-liter, 253-hp V6 mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. Standard safety features comprise the required dual-stage front airbags, three-point seatbelts and adjustable head restraints for all seating positions and child safety seat anchors (LATCH) in rear seats. In addition, fitted to all MDXs are front seat-mounted side airbags and side curtain airbags covering all three rows of seats. The MDX also comes with tire pressure monitoring system, antilock brakes, electronic brake force distribution and brake assist.

For 2006, the Acura MDX's interior has been upgraded, and the Touring edition receives ebony-tone, Zebra woodgrain and satin-chrome accents.

The Acura MDX is all-new for 2007. It's larger then the previous model and has been improved in every area. The MDX is built on a proper truck platform, and is not an adaptation of the Accord passenger car platform.

The 2007 Acura MDX offers three major options packages, Technology, Sport and Entertainment. With the Technology package, the MDX gets Acura's wonderful voice-activated navigation system, this time out with Zagat reviews and ratings embedded, a rearview camera, AcuraLink satellite communications with real-time traffic data, a 410-watt ELS surround sound system with 6CD changer and 10 speakers, wireless telephone equipment, and three-zone automatic air conditioning. The Sport package includes the Technology package and adds Delphi active-damping magnetic rheological shock absorbers, perforated leather interior trim, alloy wheels, and self-leveling HID headlamps. The Entertainment package, available with either the Technology or Sport packages, adds a DVD rear entertainment system, heated second-row seats, a power tailgate, and a 110-volt power point in the front console.

The Acura MDX offers outstanding V6 power, standard seven-passenger seating and Acura's exclusive Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system. Compelling styling, attention to detail, comprehensive safety equipment and advanced technologies increase the appeal of this luxury SUV.

The MDX is powered by a 300 hp 3.7-liter V6 engine, mated to a five-speed automatic transmission with SportShift manual mode. Heated front seats, leather upholstery, tri-zone automatic climate control and satellite radio are standard on every MDX. Three premium amenities packages are available: the Technology package adds a navigation system with voice recognition and integrated rearview camera parking assist, upgraded audio and HandsFreeLink (Bluetooth) wireless connectivity; the Sport package includes the Technology package, as well as a sport suspension with active damper system, exclusive wheels and upgraded interior trim elements; and an Entertainment package boasts Acura's DVD Rear Entertainment system, heated rear seats and a power tailgate. Standard safety-enhancing features include anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, SH-AWD, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with traction control, Xenon High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, front side-impact airbags, overhead curtain airbags for all three rows and active front head restraints.

The 2008 Acura MDX is a carryover from 2007.

The Acura MDX carries over with minimal changes for 2009. A remote-operated power tailgate, formerly available only on MDX models equipped with the Entertainment Package, is now included in the Technology and Sport packages.
