The 1964 Cadillac Hearse that carried the body of President John F. Kennedy will be auctioned off on January 21, 2012 at the 41st Annual Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, AZ.

The sale follows the 2011 auction of the ambulance used to transport President Kennedy's body from Air Force One to Bethesda Naval Hospital.

The hearse was built by the Miller-Meteor Company in 1963 and was purchased by the O'Neal Funeral Home in Dallas shortly after. A few weeks after it found its home, President Kennedy was mortally wounded when he was shot while riding in his motorcade on November 22, 1963 in Dallas. Upon being pronounced dead at Parkland Memorial Hospital, the O'Neal Funeral home was contacted and asked to provide the finest casket and vehicle it had available. The Hearse then transported the President's body to Love Field, where it was loaded onto Air Force One.

After JFK's assassination, the hearse was purchased by Arrdeen Vaughn, believed to be an employee of the O'Neal Funeral Home, where it was cared for for more than 40 years until it was privately sold to its current third owner, who is putting it up for auction.
