You did not factor into the dealers cost the monthly bonus the dealer receives for selling his quota nor did you factor in the annual bonus the dealer receives when he exceeds his annual sales quota

the dealer knows what it costs to get the car from the factory, can add the cost of his overhead and add a reasonable proffit, then post that price on the car, i bet they would sell like hotcakes, no hagling or lies, same as buying a head of letuce at the grocery store, you dont hagle with the grocer over the price

I have owned A lot vehicles over the years and the way prices are is better then in the past. take GMC, thier new set price a little ove $18,000 on the new Siarra 1500 for 2008 I think is a good thing. the price is not much more then last years price and you get a package deal with Automatic Transmission at on extra cost and you do not have to heggle at all. and as long as the dealer does not add any extra cost to the sale at singing then that to me is a good thing when I am buying a new vehicle. I worked for General Motors in Plant Engineering for 7 years in the midwest. As an employee benifit I was able to purchase GM cars directly thru the plant at the ture dealers cost. True costs. The dealer is invoiced at a higher price ( which is called "dealer invoice") and the the Corporation gives the dealer a rebate at the end of the year to make sure they make money. The final cost to the dealer is the "true dealer costs". I don't remember the price differentail but it was substantial.

Anyway, I hope I wasn't too offensive to any car salesmen here. I get a little carried away with the rhetoric sometimes.
StvnNlsn, hope you sell lots of cars if that is what you do. Selling cars is just as honorable as any other proffession it just depends on the salesman and the dealership. Most of the time it is the dealership that forces the salesmen to be less than ethical. Good luck, I am outa here.

different regions of the country get different incentives (rebates and rates)..but that has notheing to do with invoices. The rebates are tied to your zip code you reg it in. And they are usually not much different.

Please remember that the dealers are seperate from the factorys. Just because ford loses money does not mean a ford dealer is losing money lol. Service in a new car dealer is more expensive, but most dealer work is done by union workers and take pride in their work. There is overcharging due to unions in every part of our economy., but that dosent mean you should go pay more for a car that is made by a foreign care maker. Btw the union workers spend that money on something that benifits you. You could always take it to bobs garage and get your breaks done for a little less, but what about the kids?
