Eight-year-old Joshua Garcia is being hailed as a hero after saving his father's life following a car crash, but the accident has raised a lot of questions with state authorities.
Around 3 a.m., Eugenio Garcia lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the Nashua River near Fitchburg, Mass. last week, trapping him inside. His son Joshua escaped, swam to shore, and ran home nearly a mile to alert his stepmother to get help.
While the two were being treated at a nearby hospital state services took temporary custody of Joshua. They want to know what caused the crash, if Garcia was intoxicated at the time, and why the pair were out at 3 a.m. They say just driving with an eight-year-old in a car so early in the morning is a red flag.
CBS Boston has reported that child services have already visited the home and police are still investigating whether charges should be brought against Eugenio Gracia.
