Interest rate incentives are all over the map this month, since automakers have adopted various sales strategies to boost sales.
Ford and Chrysler have been tacking extra cash rebates onto their interest rate deals. These offers are ideal for buyers with substantial trade-ins or cash down payments -- they get a nice payback even if they finance just a fraction of the vehicle’s value. GM and Chrysler continue to stoke their sales with some of the most attractive interest rate offers in the industry, especially on their remaining 2009s: Chrysler is partial to 0%, four-year deals, and GM still has a number of 0%, 60-month offers available. VW is playing the incentives game again this month, offering great six-year deals on its Routan minivan. Korean automaker Kia is mostly relying on rebates right now, but has a 0% deal on its new Soul, although only for 24 months. Everything considered, consumers still have plenty of opportunities to save money on new-vehicle purchases, even as the industry slowly improves. But it’s not clear how many of these incentives will still be available in six months.

Editor's Pick: 2010 Honda Civic
If you have your heart set on an expensive luxury car sometime down the road, buying a 2010 Honda Civic could be a step in that direction. The Civic offers savings from a low interest rate and great fuel economy, giving you the opportunity to save up thousands of dollars for the wheels of your dreams. Not that the Civic wouldn't be a good choice for the long haul. Available in five trim levels, the Civic is a solid performer with good quality ratings, delivering a positive ownership experience right from the start. Its purchase price may be a shade above some of its competitors, but it also has decent resale value to compensate for the higher initial price. On most models, buyers get a 140-horsepower, 1.8-liter inline four-cylinder, with either the standard five-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic as an option. The sporty Si comes with a 197 horsepower, 2.0-liter inline-4 cylinder engine matched with a six-speed manual.
